Our Swellendam Restaurant, The Conservatory, on it’s way to being one of the best restaurants in Swellendam, plays host to intimate delicious dinners during the busy Summer months in our gorgeous Conservatory. Here guests can enjoy a carefully prepared, by Chefs Elizabeth and Grieta, sophisticated South African menu with wines paired with every course. These locally sourced vintage wines are hand-picked from the celebrated verdant regions surrounding Swellendam, Robertson and Hermanus.
When our wonderful Chef Obie (very sadly) left us to marry his fiancé in Bloemfontein last year, we decided not to replace our Head Chef position, but rather to empower and upskill the ladies that have been working in our kitchen since Chef Wander joined us in 2011. We have been so heart-warmed at the way Elizabeth & Griets have risen to the occasion. Chef Jason Whitehead was the obvious choice as consultant chef, as he has been visiting us yearly on his own personal retreat for 6 years and we hold precious places in each other’s hearts. He spent a week with us at the end of September (most definitely not on retreat this time!) to train Elizabeth and Grieta on last Summer’s menu and will return this September to collaborate with them again.
Please note that The Conservatory is closed for dinners from May through September. We are able to happily recommend La Sosta, Field&Fork, Drostdy and Koornlands. Please let us make a reservation for you! We shall reopen with an exciting new menu on the 1st October 2019.
