Our Swellendam Restaurant, The Conservatory, on it’s way to being one of the best restaurants in Swellendam, plays host to intimate delicious dinners in our gorgeous Conservatory. Here guests can enjoy a carefully prepared, by Chef Grieta and assistant Kathy, sophisticated South African menu complemented by truly delicious wines. These locally sourced vintage wines are hand-picked from the celebrated verdant regions of Swellendam, Robertson, Barrydale and Malgas.
When our wonderful Chef Obie (very sadly) left us to marry his fiancé in Bloemfontein two years ago, we decided not to replace our Head Chef position, but rather to empower and upskill the ladies that have been working in our kitchen since Chef Wander joined us in 2011. We have been so heart-warmed at the way Grieta and Kathy (and even breakfast chef Elizabeth) have risen to the occasion. Chef Jason Whitehead was the obvious choice as consultant chef, as he has been visiting us yearly on his own personal retreat for 8 years and we hold precious places in each other’s hearts. Even though the ladies have really taken ownership of their kitchen and even produced a dish or two of their own making, Jason continues to pop in and collaborate with us. He is due for another visit soon.
